Hands Across the Divide (HAD) is a bi-communal women’s organisation whose members share the values of democracy, equality, inclusion, diversity and non-violence. HAD promotes the acceptance of ethnic diverse identities and multiculturalism, and aims to address gender inequalities island wide and within the peace process and beyond.

HAD is prominent in lobbying for gender equality during the Annan Plan period, in the period leading up to the 2004 EU Accession of the RoC, and during the most recent peace negotiations, both up to 2017 and during 2021. HAD’s activities involve workshops, article publication, policy-work, civil society partnerships, podcasts and storytelling.

HAD has platformed gender issues at UN-level, is the first and only Cypriot women’s organisation that was invited to a virtual roundtable with a UNSG to discuss the WPS agenda. Recently HAD formed a partnership with the International Alliance of Women together with whom they co-hosted a panel on Women and Climate Change at the 2021 NGO CSW Forum.
